Sensitive skin can be quite bothersome. Not only are you severely limited by what products you can and cannot use on your body, but almost anything can cause your skin to react before you are even aware that you are in touch with something that is irritating your skin!
Sensitive skin can arise due to a number of different factors, such as:
- Food allergies
- Chemicals/detergents
- Airborne allergies
- Makeup and other skin care products that are applied to the skin
- Very dry skin
- Capillaries are visible through your skin
- Seasonal changes, particularly from summer to winter, cause your skin to become inflamed
- You often have red spots on your skin
- Metal jewelry will cause your skin to become inflamed
- Upon stepping out of the shower you may notice red blotches on your skin
- Stress
- Alcohol
- Cigarette smoking
- Lack of sleep
- Radiation (such as from computers or other electronic equipment)
- Preservatives
- Fragrances
- Pollen
- Dust
- Fiber
- Pet dander
1) Drink a lot of water. Water will help not only hydrate your skin, but it will help flush out any toxins that may be causing your skin to react to other stimuli.
2) Eat healthy! Believe it or not, but our diet plays a huge role in our skin’s health and how well it reacts to the elements. Start taking a multivitamin and begin focusing on eating as natural a diet as possible. Fruits and vegetables and fibers are skin’s best friend!
3) Get rid of anything that has fragrances, dyes, and preservatives. Going au natural with your products will go a long way in keeping your skin from becoming inflamed and irritated. Women are often amazed to discover that a product they have been using for 20 years suddenly causes a reaction on their skin, but there’s a good chance that the make up, lotions, or even cleansers you are using on your skin are the cause to your sensitive skin.
4) Wear gloves. Even if you find that your sensitive skin is breaking out on your arms, face, chest, or any where else, when ever you are using cleaning products around your home wear gloves! This will help protect your skin and keep it free from coming in contact with harsh irritants.
